This music was offered on the 25th of June, on the 27th of August and 24th of September 2022 at Documenta 15-Kassel. Germany. Invited by the collective La Intermundial Holobiente. In the context of the series of events called “Sublunar Nocturne”.
Name of the piece:
Conditional Music. Frequencies channels unused by non human entities.
Instrumentation:
For Tuned field recordings, Sine tones. In the live version: Slide Saxophone, Mini speakers hanging from Helium Balloons.
In this occasion "Conditional Music"is a piece based in field recordings used as a way to scan the frequencies map of a specific open air location, selecting then those that are unused by non human entities. I have then worked in a selected frequencies spectrum attempting to non interrupt non human communication and join the general Spectrum as one more entity in the field. After making 6 hours of recordings, i have scanned them and re made the recordings in the same place but placing a microphone inside cardboard tubes of differing dimensions. The cardboard tubes generate, via the Resonance phenomena, a pitch that makes the field recording have a drone, a constant tone that makes the field recordings sound as if they were "tuned". Changing the length of the tubes i change these tone. In the same way i do when i change with keys the length of the tube playing my bass clarinet, but in this occasion the "player" is the space. In this occasion i have changed the lengths of the tubes in order to have as tones, frequencies that are not being used by any living creature, while i was recording. Then i have made another selection of specific frequencies that i have played as sine tones, via mini speakers hanging from Helium Balloons. The initial recordings with the tubes could be listened at the main stereo PA. Beyond this specific technical aspects, my main intention is to create a sort of slightly ambiguous perception of the recorded space and the space as it behaves while i perform the piece. Attempting to appeal to the perceptive capacities and pleasure of the audience.
Deep Thanks to La Intermundial Holobiente.
